After the devastating earthquake in 2023, we, together with various humanitarian organizations, donated a field hospital to the severely affected region of Afrin, Syria. This hospital was urgently needed, as no medical facility in the area remained standing.
The organization IDA, which runs multiple projects in Syria, committed itself to managing this hospital. In the months following its establishment, they significantly expanded the field hospital with additional beds and essential medical services. As a result, the hospital has now been recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as the main referral hospital in the region. While this is an incredible achievement, it also comes with a great responsibility—especially when funding for operational costs proves to be insufficient.
With an urgent plea, IDA reached out: “Can you once again join forces and help us at least sustain operations until the end of the year?” Meanwhile, they were actively sourcing new, consistent funding to secure the hospital’s long-term future from January 2025 onward.
Together with a partner, we managed to gather the necessary funds to ensure the continuity of the field hospital. This is vital for the people of Afrin, especially now that conditions in Syria are expected to change after January 2025. Through these joint efforts, critical medical care remains accessible to a community that needs it more than ever.
