Expanding Medical Support with Boat Refugee Foundation
A few years ago, Boat Refugee Foundation (BRF) reached out to Hospitainer with an urgent request: a large mobile consultation unit to provide essential medical care in the refugee camp on Lesbos. Since then, the unit has been in full use and has even grown into a larger care hub, with additional treatment spaces created in tents surrounding the trailer.

During a recent visit by Hospitainer Foundation board member Bart Waalewijn and THF runner Sanne van Heusden, a new need was identified. To strengthen their ability to serve people on other islands and camps, BRF expressed the wish for a smaller mobile unit; flexible, practical, and ready to move where the need is greatest. Seeing firsthand the tireless and impactful work of BRF, and the enormous daily need for medical care, the decision was clear: Hospitainer Foundation would support this expansion.

By the end of the summer, we were proud to officially hand over the new mobile unit to BRF’s director, Esther Vonk. Immediately after the handover, Foundation board member Johanna van der Meer set off with the unit towards Greece. Upon arrival, it was received with great warmth and enthusiasm. The BRF team is eager to put it into action, bringing critical healthcare closer to those who need it most.
